Can we stay fit while enjoying craft beer? Beer drinking is a usually a social gathering must have. Many of us these days enjoy a beer or two or are beer enthusiasts. Oh how we wish we could enjoy a beer and not feel guilty. Whatever it may be, we all know the calories can pack on the pounds and give that oh so unattractive “beer belly”. As a female craft beer drinker, that isn’t an option for me. I make sure to get in exercise, eat somewhat healthy and drink in moderation.
It is said that there are many health benefits of craft beers. But moderation is definitely key.
Beer flights are the way I choose to enjoy beer! Enjoy a tasting of beer with the samples and flights and you don’t have to feel guilty. Samplers or ‘flights” are one of my favorite ways to enjoy beers while I’m trying to stay fit. Yes, exercise is a big part of it but over indulging is the worst thing you can do. So keep it in moderation by drinking samplers.
At a recent visit to TAP sports bar and grill inside MGM Las Vegas, I had a flight of beers. I had 5 flights, 4 oz each. With this, I was able to try different beers without committing to just one. It’s also nice because you can share. Then, you’re not guilty of drinking too much. Here is my little review on the beers I tried.
From top to bottom:
- Firestone DBA ABV: 5%
Beautiful light brown color. Has a smooth start. Malty scent, Strong “Beer” aftertaste (to me)
- Speakeasy Prohibition: 6.10%
Dark gold/amber in color. Strong floral scent, aromatic. A hint of fruit. Easy to drink ale.
- Shakespere Oatmeal Stout (Rogue Ales) ABV: 5.80%
Pours a dark color, almost black. Smells of chocolate and malt. Maybe even a little roasted smell with a light oat scent. Creamy taste. Must like a traditional stout.
- Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA ABV: 9.00%
Definitely lives up to the name. Hoppy, light floral and grapefruit scent. Pours an orange amber color. Creamy, medium body. Went really well with the Philly Cheeseteak I had. But not my favorite.
- Lindemans Framboise (Lambic)
Very fragrant. Deep burgundy/purple in color. Sweet, candy flavor. Cranberry/Raspberry taste. Something I would drink again.
Note: I did not drink all of these myself. I shared it with my Husband. So if you’re watching your weight or trying to lead a healthy lifestyle but want to enjoy a beer, remember to keep it balanced with exercise and diet. Don’t feel guilty to have tasters, flights or samples.
